Mediators

Qualified mediators have completed formal studies and an internship (mediations under supervision). They are often social workers or lawyers, but may have other backgrounds.

Mediators can specialize in various areas, including family, business, labour, landlord & tenant, debtor & creditor, environmental, insurance and other areas of dispute.

Family Mediators

Qualified "family mediators" should special training in family law issues and experience mediating family law disputes. "Comprehensive family mediators" assist with family law property disputes, as well as parenting arrangements (custody & access) and support.

Choosing a mediator

Consider the mediator's:

  • membership in and certification by professional associations
  • area(s) of specialization
  • training and education
  • experience as mediator
  • related background and training
  • references
  • fees
